Australia's Biggest Truck Dealers, by Advertised Stock

Ranked by how much stock they actually advertise — counted live, not curated. Plus what dealer size does and does not tell you about the deal you will get.

We rank dealers by one measurable thing: how many trucks they currently advertise. This is not a "best dealers" list. Nobody can measure "best", we take no money from dealers to appear here, and no dealer can pay to move up this ranking.

Dealer size is genuinely useful information, as long as you know what it is telling you. A yard with two hundred trucks on the ground has a different business model from one with fifteen, and each is better at something.

What size buys you

Large dealers

  • Real choice in one visit. Comparing six similar trucks in an afternoon is worth more than any amount of online research.
  • Trade-in appetite. They can absorb your old truck because they have a channel for it.
  • Finance and warranty infrastructure that exists whether or not the salesperson likes you.
  • Less negotiating room per unit, and you are one of many transactions that month.

Smaller and independent dealers

  • The person selling often knows the specific truck — who traded it, what was done to it, why.
  • More flexibility on price, because the decision-maker is in the building.
  • Narrower stock, so you may be choosing between what they have rather than what you wanted.
  • Reputation is local and personal, which cuts both ways but is easy to check by asking around.

What the ranking cannot tell you

Stock volume says nothing about how a dealer treats a buyer, what their preparation standards are, or whether they will answer the phone in six weeks. Those are the things that actually determine whether you had a good purchase, and they are not countable.

What we would check before buying anywhere, large or small:

  1. Ask what was done to prepare this specific truck, and ask for the invoice. A dealer who has spent money on it can show you.
  2. Ask to see the service history rather than being told it exists.
  3. Get the roadworthy or inspection status in writing, including who performs it and when.
  4. Ask what happens if something significant fails in the first month, and get the answer in writing.
  5. Search the dealer's name alongside the word "problem". Ten minutes, occasionally decisive.
Every listing on this site links back to the dealer's own page, and we take no commission on any sale. The enquiry goes to them, not to us.

Common questions

How is this dealer ranking calculated?

Purely by the number of trucks each dealer currently advertises, counted from live listings and updated as we re-crawl their websites. No dealer pays to appear or to rank higher, and the order reflects nothing except advertised stock volume.

Is a bigger dealer a safer purchase?

Not inherently. Large dealers offer more choice, established finance and warranty processes and a genuine trade-in channel. Smaller dealers often know the individual truck's history better and have more room to move on price. Neither correlates reliably with how well you will be treated.

Do you take a commission on sales?

No. Listings link out to the dealer's own website and enquiries go directly to them. Our revenue comes from equipment finance through Overdrive Commercial Funding when a buyer chooses to use it.
